The Oldlands Stud motto is ”Quality of life for horses”. Oldlands Stud is owned and run by Barbara Sanne, her son Professor Ian Sanne and his wife Ingeborg, assisted by stud manager Tammy Newnham. Together our experienced and dedicated team of staff are hands-on to ensure the well-being of the horses, with veterinarians focused on their reproductive health.
Oldlands Stud is situated on 200 Hectares of land in the Hemel en Aarde Valley near Hermanus in the Western Cape of South Africa. The combination of the Mediterranean climate, as well as being in an area free of African Horse Sickness makes this an ideal location for breeding quality, well-developed horses. The farm works on biodynamic principles, with Elsenburg Agricultural College advising on soil samples so the mixed grazing is grown on balanced soil, ensuring only the best for our horses!
The stud cares for 40 mares and their offspring during the breeding season, visiting various Western Cape stallions in which the farm has invested.
With two runners in the Dubai World Cup: Lucky Find and Sanshaawes, as well as five winners in the UK, the stud has proven to be internationally competitive.
